August 3, 2019 – For the first time in ISDS history, Team India have emerged world champions at the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) 2019 that was held in Bangkok, Thailand from July 24th to 31st. Team India Debater Tejas Subramaniam was ranked the best speaker in the world and top ESL speaker. Team India Debater Bhavya Shah ranked as the 6th best speaker in the world and the 4th best ESL speaker. Manya Gupta was the 6th best ESL speaker and 14th best in the world.

Team India win unanimously against Team Bangladesh opposing the motion ‘This house prefers a world where adult children take in their elderly parents rather than support them to live separately’.

India Defeat Pakistan
Team India defeats Team Pakistan in the Quarter Finals unanimously on a 5 -0 decision and progresses through to the semi-finals of the world championships opposing the motion “This house supports China’s attempts to become a dominant global power”.
(Top 4) SEMI FINALS
India Defeat China
Team India defeats Team China on a 7 – 0 decision proposing the motion ‘THBT charities and humanitarian organizations should not use images of graphic suffering in their ad campaigns’.
Progresses through to the Grand Finals of the world championships.
(Top 2) GRAND FINALS
India Wins WSDC 2019 Title against Canada.
Team India win the grand final on a unanimous 9 – 0 decision to Team Canada winning the WSDC Title for the very first time.
Absolutely fantastic debate proposing the motion ‘This House regrets the glorification of soldiers as heroes”.
