Team India finish as Quarterfinalists at WSDC 2023

July 18 – 28, 2023 – From July 18-28, Team India attended the first in-person WSDC held in the last four years in Hanoi, Vietnam. Team India finished at the Championship as Quarterfinalists, bowing out in a close 4-3 split to the Team from Scotland.

Team India Debater Hitishaa Goyal was ranked the 2nd best speaker in the world and top ESL speaker. Team India Debater Avni Chadha was ranked the 6th best speaker in the world and the 4th best ESL speaker. Haasini Kellampalli was ranked 19th best in the world.

India were also the only team to finish at the end of preliminary rounds winning all 8/8 debates, ranking first at the end of preliminary rounds of 64 participating nations. The Team was coached by Lucia Arce Cubas, Oskar Sherry, and Rohan Kapoor. The team was managed by Atul RH.

India Defeat Latvia

Team India win unanimously (5-0) against Team Latvia opposing the motion ‘This House believes that it is against the interest of organised religion to emphasise strict requirements for personal religious requirements (e.g., fasting during Ramadan)’.

India bow out on a 4-3 Split to Scotland

Team India bows out of WSDC 2023 on a close, 4-3 decision to Team Scotland opposing the motion “This House believes that offensive art should not be commissioned for public spaces (museums, parks, squares, etc.)”
