We are extremely happy to welcome the debaters from across globe. It looks like a Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam which means the whole world is one family. The main aim of this unique initiative is to promote competitive debating among the Indian students and bring trainers from abroad to place India on the global map on its debating journey.
July 21, 2019 – Mini Worlds Chennai 2019 was the first international World School Debating Championship (WSDC) style tournament to take place in India where 12 national debating teams from India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Hong Kong, England, Wales, Ireland, The Netherlands, Mexico, Nigeria, Australia, and New Zealand participated. The tournament aimed to give teams from around the world a flavour of South Asia and a taste of the debating culture in India.
Team Netherlands emerged champions in a close and well fought final on a 4-3 split decision against the incredible Team Hong Kong. Team India had lost the semi-finals against Hong Kong and Team New Zealand had lost the other semis to Netherlands.
The Indian National (WSDC) Team were represented by Prithvi Arun (Chennai), Manya Gupta (Jaipur), Saranya Ravindran (Chennai), Bhavya Shah (Mumbai) and Tejas Subramaniam (Chennai). India being the host country, three development teams from India also participated making it four Indian teams in all.
The event that took place in Chennai between the 19th and 21st of July was organised by Indian Schools Debating Society (ISDS) and sponsored by the Ramco Group of Companies.
