It’s hard to express how immensely influential debating has been in making me more accommodating, open and conscious.
Debating transformed the lens in which I perceived things before – be it religion, feminism, world affairs or individual choices. It made me realize the power every individual had in making the smallest difference by standing up for what they believe in as opposed to disengage with those who disagree. Debating taught me to accept that there were a 1000 different approaches to any question and to value each and every approach. It taught me to be unafraid to voice out my opinions(as nerve wracking as speaking in front of an audience is).
Two years ago, when I started debating, the first thing I learnt was that debating was not just about speaking but was more about critical reasoning, logic, teamwork and spontaneous thinking.
Despite being one of the most demanding activities I have engaged in, my passion for debating seems to only grow because to me, to debate is not just to argue, not just to defend, but to learn and to grow.
