A common piece of professional advice shared is that debate and public speaking are life skills. But debating is so much more than that. It is a transformational force that by forcing you to engage with people you are otherwise oblivious to, issues that you can easily forget, and opinions that you might not hold, changes you for the better. So, yes, debate does make smarter thinkers, interviewees or college papers. But, far more importantly, it makes empathetic, aware, and just better humans. That is why I believe in debate and in ISDS’s mission to make debating a part of education for all.
