Meet our Alums

Debating has done something that nothing else has been able to in such a manner – it has made me think. It has made me think about the world around me, the impacts of my actions, even my thoughts on the fabric of society.

It has showed me that being passive doesn’t cut it – that not being sexist wasn’t enough; I had to be a feminist. It showed me the power of my words in shaping the thoughts of people around me, and how logically structuring arguments could mean the difference between a disinterested listener to an engaged one.

In the Indian Society that I was brought up in, debating for the first time told me that arguing wasn’t a bad thing or something to be scowled at. Most importantly, debating allows me to express myself in a society that detests questioning and change.
